Purrfect Pets was established in 2008 by Dr. Bridgette Johnson, a 2004 graduate of Tuskegee University's School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Johnson recognised the lack of veterinary services in eastern New Providence and set out to bring quality veterinary care to that community.
With a passion for preventative medicine, Dr. Johnson aims to reduce the number of communicable diseases in the animals in the surrounding areas.
What we do
Wellness exams, vaccination, surgery, dentistry, in-house diagnostics and hospitalisation, all from our Prince Charles Drive facility.
Nose to tail physical examinations for puppies, adults and seniors.
Vaccines from the safest manufacturers, plus heartworm and parasite screening.
Complete Blood Counts and Comprehensive Chemistry Panels, results the same visit.
Spays, neuters, soft tissue surgery and specialised procedures.
Dental cleanings and extractions, because pets get periodontal disease too.
A monitored hospitalisation area, an outdoor walking yard and a fully stocked pharmacy.
Dr. Johnson suffers from severe allergies to cats and has relinquished services to cats for the time being. At present Purrfect Pets treats dogs only.
Heartworm awareness
Living in The Bahamas, with a tropical climate year round, our dogs are always at risk of contracting and potentially spreading heartworm disease. Heartworm disease is potentially fatal if untreated or severe, and it is entirely preventable. Prevention starts at 8 weeks old and is given once every 30 days for life.
Full service grooming at Purrfect Pets has been discontinued. At present we perform medicated baths on established patients with skin conditions under treatment.

Common questions
At Purrfect Pets we like to spay females before their first heat, which occurs between 6 and 9 months old. We regularly schedule spay and neuter appointments shortly after the series of vaccinations is completed. If your pet is older, an examination to determine their health status should be performed and your vet can advise you when is an appropriate time to spay or neuter.
Puppies should begin their series of vaccines ideally between the ages of 6 and 8 weeks old. Vaccines are only given to healthy puppies.
Heartworm prevention should start as early as 8 weeks old. It should be given once a month, every 30 days, for the lifetime of the pet. Watch your pet closely to make sure they eat the full pill in front of you. Heartworms, which can be fatal, are transmitted by mosquito, so protecting your pet every month is extremely important.
No. It might seem economical to buy a larger size of Heartgard and split it between two smaller dogs, but it is not advisable and should never be considered an alternative. Heartworm tablets are not scored, which means the medication is not evenly distributed throughout the pill. Splitting it can have serious consequences and can result in an animal becoming positive for heartworms because they are not receiving the proper dose. Always administer the preventative as instructed for your pet's weight range.
